| Bone marrow donor needed to save a young woman's life! |
| Dear CACC families. |
| A young Chinese American woman who just graduated from Amador Vallley High School several years ago is now fighting for her life and in urgent need of everyone's help! |
| Janet Liang is an intelligent sweet young lady with a bright future. She met the greatest challenge of her life when she was diagnosed with 'acute lymphoblastic leukemia' in 2009 at age 22 while studying at UCLA to be a teacher. Determined to fight the illness, Janet endured 8 rounds of high-dosage chemotherapy and left the hospital cancer-free for 18 months. During this time, Janet was accepted into graduate school, took a dream trip to England and France with her mother, and had the chance to appear on People Magazine on behalf of the non-profit organization First Descents. Unfortunately, this past year, Janet has relapsed with her leukemia and her plans for the future are put on hold once again. |
| Janet is now 25 years old and pressed for time (about 2 months, as told by her doctors) to find a match for a bone marrow transplant -- that may be the last chance to save her life. Chinese-Americans are the best bet in terms of finding a match. However, currently only less than 2% of the Chinese American community is represented in the total registry. |
Watch Janet's heart-breaking cry for help on YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSCyz8F_kuo&feature=relate |
Here is how you can help -- |
| 1) Join the Registry: Register online and order a free registration kit (which contains the registration paperwork and the q-tips for the cheek swab) from the National Marrow Donor Program and follow the steps (You must be between the ages of 18 and 60!) - http://join.bethematch.org/TeamJanet |
| 2) Check out the local Northern California Drives to find an upcoming bone marrow drive near you - http://www.aadp.org/drive |
| ** Stay tuned for information on the Bone Marrow Drive at CACC in the coming weeks |
| ** It takes only 10 minutes or less -- just a few forms to fill out and a simple cheek swab |
| 3) Spread the Word:
|
| This young lady could be your child, friend, or neighbor! Taking 10 minutes of your time could save her life or someone else's life! Let's do our best to give Janet the gift of hope, and the gift of life! |
|
Thank you very much!
